Memorials of Two Quiet Lives
Graham and Ann Arnold were born to be artists. Graham with his eye on history and content and Ann with her spiritual love of the English landscape. A love that dovetailed into the figurative longings of the Ruralists, with whom they exhibited throughout the group’s existence.
Memorial of Two Quiet Lives, taken from a title of one of Graham’s paintings, brings a selection of their work together with the remembrances of many of their friends and colleagues.
The artworks have been chosen and researched to give a feel for these artists’ lives and the way they thought. They also show how their work and lives were interwoven until one cannot be disconnected from the other.
It has been published in conjunction with the exhibition Memorials of Two Quiet Lives held at Barleyfield Gallery, from September 10th to December 10th 2022.
